Hi friends,
Happy almost-summer. Please enjoy this brief moment with a water lily. I spent an afternoon at Van Dusen Garden in Vancouver last week and had the great pleasure of working with these lilies, a dogwood tree in bloom (check the chat on substack for a listen!) and cat mint.
I’ll be posting a tutorial here next week on the basics of modular synthesis, with specific reference to the tiny system you see in this video. It’s a great setup for explaining how biodata converters and modular synthesizers work. If you’ve been paying attention you’ll note that I’ve said this before! I think I’ve finally figured out how to shoot the video in a way that will be helpful to you.

In other news, in just a few weeks I’ll be hosting field trips in public parks across Western Canada. These events combine foraging and deep listening… we gather plants and mushrooms and then put on headphones and ‘listen’ to bioelectric soundscapes in public parks. I’ve hosted field trips all over the world but very few in Canada! I’m excited to be bringing this experience to my home country. Please join the fun 🌱
