I love Mushroom Church. Over the past year in my travels, I’ve witnessed some very unlikely collaborations between fungi, flora, poets and musicians. For those of you who are new here, Mushroom Church is a series of events that I’ve been organizing around the world. We rent out a church, collaborate with local mycophiles, artists and musicians, and host an evening of ‘fungal inspiration’ in which we which we reconnect with nature and community. It’s quite strange and quite beautiful.
Every event is different. And there have been some truly magical moments, like the one above in which I’m plugged into a Japanese Maple from right outside the Rosedale United Church in Toronto and accompanied by Jaron Freeman-Fox on violin and Gandhaar Amin on bansuri flute.
I’ll be releasing some of my favorite moments from these unique events in an album called Mushroom Church Vol 01 on Earth Day! April 22, 2023. To celebrate I’m hosting 2 very intimate immersive listening sessions at the wonderful Lobe Studio in Vancouver the next day.

I mixed this album in spatial audio, a format which allows for a fully immersive listening experience. Although some headphones can handle this format, the absolute best way to listen is in a specially constructed room. Fortunately in Vancouver we have Lobe Studio, one of the world’s only 4D sound rooms. There are even speakers in the floor! The techs at Lobe are helping me convert the audio files so we can listen to the whole record as it was meant to be heard - with the sound all around us. There are only 25 spots for each session. Tickets are $20, just enough to help me cover the rental of the space. And I’ll be bringing a BIG armful of my recycled screen-printed tees with small defects in them as a free gift for those who come early. Cushions and mats are included. Come and vibe ✨
Mushroom Church Europe Next Month!
I am over the moon to be bringing Mushroom Church to some gorgeous venues in Europe next month, starting on May 1st in Barcelona - then off to Bornem (Belgium), Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm - and Lisbon is being announced this week. What started as a little community art project at a community centre in Vancouver is now touring Europe. Unreal. Most of these events are close to sold out - we just added a second show in Stockholm. Very excited to see you there!
