Listening to an Iris in Spain

And an Earth Day conversation with Jesse Paris Smith!

Hi friends,

I’m 2 days into my European tour and deeply appreciating my first visit to Spain. I’m tucked away in a little town called Santa Engracia (when I say little, I mean 8 inhabitants on a remote hilltop about 2.5 hours north of Barcelona!). A long time Internet friend invited me to the Fox House (Casa Guila), a refurbished estate in the foothills of the Pyrenees that her and her husband have turned into an idyllic sanctuary. This is my landing place before the busy-ness of the tour begins tomorrow in Barcelona.

I’m surrounded by native evergreen oak trees and dog rose bushes in this village which dates back to 900 CE. The Romanesque church in the video above dates back to the same period, holds about 80 people, and is only active a few times a year on important festival dates. Somehow, the local priest has approved a future Mushroom Church in the sanctuary - so stay tuned for that 🍄

There are wildflowers everywhere! Marigolds, poppies - and irises that I just couldn’t resist plugging into. I spent yesterday evening composing on the fly, outside the walls of the church.

I hope to see you somewhere in Europe, here are the upcoming dates:

May 1: Barcelona Mushroom Church
May 3: Bornem Mushroom Church
May 4: Bornem Field Trip
May 6: Amsterdam Mushroom Church
May 7: Cologne Field Trip
May 8: Berlin Mushroom Church
May 10: Stockholm Mushroom Church (second show added)
May 16: Lisbon Mushroom Church
May 18: Mallorca Field Trip

A big thank you to Research Associated and paid subscribers! This week I’m sharing a bonus long format conversation with musician and activist Jesse Paris Smith wherein we chat about Earth Day, recite mushroom poetry, play music, and talk about the importance of hope and inspiration. This is an edited version of the live session that we did together last week. Please enjoy 💚
